Welcome to the 2021 MSOM Conference, hosted online by the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University.

The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University is proud to host the 2021 Manufacturing and Service Operations Management Conference. The coronavirus pandemic has shown us all just how vital operations management of manufacturing and service industries is to the physical and economic welfare of communities around the world.

At Kelley, we talk a lot about making connections that lead to momentum. Never has it been more important to bring together researchers, educators, students, and practitioners to explore ideas, share insights, and create opportunities that benefit the greater good. Innovations in business operations will help define the post-pandemic world.

My colleagues in the Operations and Decision Technologies (ODT) department and I are thrilled and honored that our faculty colleagues, Alfonso Pedraza Martinez and Owen Wu, are organizing the 2021 Manufacturing and Service Operations Management (MSOM) Conference.

With a wide array of research interests in areas such as supply risk management, service and retail operations, healthcare operations, sustainable operations, humanitarian and socially responsible operations, energy resource management, wisdom of the crowds, social media analytics, and demand/supply of information goods, the ODT department is the home to innovative programs in supply chain and operations management, decision sciences, and information systems management.

Welcome from the MSOM Conference Co-chairs

It is our great pleasure to welcome all the participants around the world for the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management (MSOM) Conference and its associated Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings.

This is the first online MSOM conference, which presents both flexibility and challenges in organizing the conference. As co-chairs of the planning committee, we made an effort to ensure that each session takes place during a favorable time for the presenters located in different countries around the world. With consent from presenters, we will post recorded presentations online, so that this may be the first MSOM conference that you can never miss a session.

The quality of the presentations scheduled for the conference is outstanding. We hope that the research presented at the conference will shape the future of manufacturing and service operations.
